Respite care is a service that provides supportive care and supervision to a recipient when the primary caregiver is unable to perform these duties due to a planned brief absence, an emergency absence or when the caregiver is available, but temporarily physically unable to care for or supervise the recipient for a brief period.
Summary of Description
- Assist the individual in achieving his or her stated support plan goals when it relates to the following:
- Provide in-home services by staying with the individual who needs care for a specific time during the absence or unavailability of the caregiver.
- Assist with meal preparation
- Assist with activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, feeding, light housekeeping)
- Provide support and or assistance to the individual with his or her physical care, recreational, nutritional, developmental, medical, social and behavioral needs sanitary and safe environment.
*Respite Care services may fall under the following types:
- Companion – Help with supervision, recreational activities and visiting.
- Personal Care – Help with bathing, dressing, toileting, exercising and other daily activities.
- Homemaker – Help with housekeeping, shopping and meal preparation.
- Skilled care – Help with certain medical services or care.
